My Cooper's Hawk

WARNING: This post is kind of bloody and yucky. After yesterday's Robin PSA, I guess you could say that...my blog has gone to the birds...If you don't want to see my Cooper's Hawk killing a grackle you should stop reading right HERE!!!!!

I scrolled down so no one had to see it if they didn't want to. I have 7 bird feeders. They each hold 5#'s of food. We go through hundreds of pounds of cracked corn and sunflower seeds. We also keep suet feeders up. This is a Cooper's Hawk butt I also have a pair of Red Tailed Hawks. They have never made a kill close enough to the house for pictures.

The hawk guarded its kill by constantly checking for danger. When this was going on... there wasn't another single bird to be seen.
This happened the morning that all of this snow started falling. It was right under the window and below two of my feeders.

Look at that beautiful face and those deadly talons!!! The actual kill took only seconds.

Two days ago it made another kill in the same place, butt it instantly flew off to eat it in the front yard. I know this was not a very pretty post, butt we bird lovers do understand that this is part of the cycle of life.

Reminder:::: Mango is taking a bloggie hiatus sooooo I can safely remind you to send your Thank you cards and notes by Feb. 22nd.. I already have several. They are safe and sound in a basket in my toy room. Please feel free to remind your followers. Here is my addy:

How cool!! We have redtails here too, never seen one that close though. As long as they don't start looking at your furry little self as a snack..... Be careful out there, buddy!!

lol! the olympics are a far far ways from here--the opposite end of the country! so you won't see us unfortunately ;-)

i don't know how to go about getting a book--wouldn't a publisher have to contact me or something like that? and i am not sure too many people would want to buy a book full of wolfhound pictures. probably not a good investment for a publisher ;-) hehehe

OMBird! Aren't you scared, Frankie? These were awesome photos, but I'm now worried about you. How can you guarantee your safety?

Those are great pictures! We don't get to see anything like that here. Of course, the bird feeders were knocked over by the dogs and all the bird seed was smashed into the ground, so that could have something to do with it. Thanks for sharing the photos!
