No Surgery for Lori

This is a very sad post. Lori learned that she is NOT a candidate for Lasik surgery. She and mom and I are soooo sad and depressed about this. We had been waiting for 3 months and were all hyped up and excited about this. When Lori called she cried and it was all mom could do to keep from it. After she hung up she did cry and I have whined and whimpered because we feel so bad.

Now we have to look for a silver lining instead of the dark cloud itself.
The good news is that they were so professional at the clinic. They would not do the surgery and risk her sight. She can still have excellent vision with lenses.

It is better to have tried and failed, than never to have tried at all.

Okay, I feel a little better, but I still want to whimper and whine for Lori.

I did get some very interesting news from my wimmen (Ruby & Penny) who live in Canada. They wanted to set the recornd straight. Lasik is NOT free for Canadians. Mom and I were really surprised to find this out. I wanted to tell you this because right now there are so many rumors floating around this country about health care. My girls did not say why it isn't covered under their health care system, butt mom and I both feel it should be. It would save money in the long run. Maybe they will explain it more today.

I wanted to be sure to make this correction for you. I don't like to spread false rumors. You can read what Ruby and Penny had to say yesterday. I thank them for giving me the facts.

I also wanted to say again how very professional and caring the people at the Lasik Center of Canada were. Lori said that they seemed to feel as badly as she did. They were looking out for her best interests.

My very much good friend TWIX had some super information about Lasik yesterday. ( you can go back and see what Twix said) My mom is one of the really lucky people who actually sees better since she had her Lasik (PRK actually).
Twix's mom actually works in a Lasik center here in this country. So what Twix says can be counted on to be correct.

I am still upset about poor Lori. I am going to close today by saying one of my really bad things. Oh CAT FART.

Sorry to see that fur Lori...

Perhaps with the khontinuing advances they are making with vision khorrekhtion procedures, she'll be able to try another type...

I know my mom wasn't sure she'd khwalify - bekhause she had some pretty nasty astikhkmuhtismzzzzz (they almost looked at her left eye like she was some khind of mutant)!

She did need two procedures to finetune it - which she didn't mind at all - she knew it would probably take that but it was all khovered! Her surgeon's policy was if she kept all her chekhkup appointments and followed their suggestions, any additional work was khovered fur two years!

Please give Lori a special Sibe Khyss from me the next time woo see her!

Hugz&Khysses,

Hi Khyra, Thanks soooo very much for your encouragement. I feel better just reading what you had to say. My mom had that astigmatism thingy too. If she had gone one year earlier... they said that they would not have been able to fix it. So, you are very much correct about how much advancement they have made.
Maybe in a year or two...

So sorry that the Lasik surgery couldn't be done.

The silver lining is that she can see well with lenses, and has her health. My youngest sister has been blind since birth. And my best friend had Lasik surgery about 3 years ago by one of the best doctors in the country. Unfortunately, she was that one in a million that is adversely affected. She can no longer drive (husband has to drive her everywhere) and everything looks like it has light reflections and auras around it. She wishes now that she'd stayed with her contact lenses. :-(

Detroit Dog, So glad to hear from you. It has been a while.
You did a super job of putting things into perspective. Thank you. I'll see to it that mom and Lori read and discuss your comment. I know it will help.
I am sorry to hear about your sister and your friend.
Funny how we forget our good fortune and many blessings, isn't it. Hugs to you.

Hi, Frankie! I'm sorry, I have been sick and am VERY behind on blogs. Can you tell me or find out why Lori was not a candidate for surgery? There are other procedures that can be done for people who can't have laser vision correction. I actually work in the research dept of one of the top surgeons world wide. We do have studies going on right now that help people who can't have laser surgery. Feel free to email me if you would like. twixandi at gmail dot com. I would love to be able to help Lori see better!
