Pressie from the INTRUDER...

FURST.......    THANK YOU FUR POTP fur FRANKIE... my (Ernest vonSchnitzel) Big Brother.         THEY are WORKING...      We can BOTH feel it.   In our HEARTS and Frankie's Eyes...
Now Our MOM wants to TRY and take over our Blog fur a bit...    This should be entertaining... she can't even leave pawper PeeMail...   Just sayin...      HERE YOU GO MOM>>>>>>>

Hello???   Hello?? are you there?            ERNIE is this thing Working?
Come show me what to do darling...

OKAY..Ernie says I can talk to you now... FRANKIE is SLEEPING at the moment..
I  yesterday at the VET's OFFICE had two panic attacks....   Several Crying fits...    I felt like I had been Shot at and Missed, SPIT at and HIT.     I went there thinking Frankie had a simple little infection... and then things went DOWN HILL.
I  and am not able to tell you what all HAS and WILL be happening for SURE.      This will be a WAITING GAME until at least FRIDAY MORNING.
Late Tues. Evening I noticed Frankie SQUINTING...  he was in the Sun... I moved him to the Shade and he was STILL squinting...   thought he had maybe gotten something in his eyes.   Washed them out... and he seemed a bit better... it was TOO LATE TO GO TO THE VET...
I checked on him 4 times during the night...  NO WORSE...NO BETTER...
Called VET and went for appt.    Here are the things that were checked on:
   Temp...   101°  Exactly PERFECT

Vet gave a full exam...He said that there was an INFECTION in Both EYES    and did not like the FEEL of Frankie's SPLEEN... and could NOT see his Left PUPIL at all...

He THEN did a Schimer Tear Test
a  Corneal Stain and took him to the X-Ray room where it is TOTALLY Dark so he could get a better look...  STILL could NOT see Left Pupil...   He called Dr. Welsh in and had HIM look...   he could not see pupil EITHER...   so they did a
TONOMETRY...Eye Pressure test... that was excellent... and actually well Below normal... so NO Glocoma.
He came out and said that he felt Frankie should be taken to Columbus to Ohio State Univ. Vet. Hospital... OR MED VET...  for a K-9 Ophthalmologist to look at him... because Dr. Hustey believes there is a MASS of Some sort Either IN or BEHIND his Cornea.
I said....  WAIT....    Let's find out    RIGHT this INSTANT if he DOES have a MASS in his Spleen or if it is just "FOLDED' as you say SOMETIMES say happens...
OFF TO have a full X-Ray...
It showed     NO Mass and NO intestinal Abnormalities at all.        WHEW!!!!
THEN he said to be Totally Sure we COULD do an ULTRASOUND....   I said   YES...   Do the Ultrasound and while you are doing it..... be sure to Try and Do his EYE... I know they are Difficult and Understand that you are NOT an Ophthalmologist...   But  just TRY for me.
An hour and a half Later....    ULTRASOUND showed NO INTESTINAL MASS ANYWHERE.    WHEW    WHEW... and he could not see anything in Frankie's Eye with the Ultrasound.     WHEW... sort of.

I JUST HAPPENED to have taken the Camera... and Remembered that I had a Close up of Frankie.... taken June 1, 2014...    TEN days ago...    and I showed it to him...
He INSTANTLY said .... OH BOTH PUPILS are Clearly VISIBLE in the picture.     It would be rater UNUSUAL for a MASS this size to form in just 10 days...

I said that since That was the case 10 days ago...    I would RATHER we give Frankie and some meds. a CHANCE to fight this off...  on the outside case that it is INFECTION and NOT a MASS.        And asked for an appt. for FRIDAY Morning...   for a check to see how things are going.

THEN if it is NOT better...   I would be MORE than willing to go to OSU for the Ophthalmologist Check up.
SO.... Frankie is now on an steroid for the infection... these are EYE DROPS....         AND he gave him something (Rimadyl) to make sure he has no discomfort.
I gave him the first Rimadyl... right THEN... and put his Drops in once we got to the car...         He will have one more Pill and two more sets of Drops (both eyes had infection... both eyes will be treated)
When we arrived Home...    I used WARM Moist SOFT cloth to loosen and wash away the crusty stuff that was around his eyes...        then he went to his Napping bed and CRASHED OUT.
NOTE:    It was MY decision to take the more CONSERVATIVE route with this.      I based it on the fact that the EYE is Self Contained... if this IS a Mass... and it IS malignant...    it would be contained in the orb..
IF... I did not KNOW and Have Picture PROOF that 10 days ago... there was NO PROBLEM with Frankie's Eyes...    AND if  there had been a Mass on the X-Ray or on the Ultrasound...  I would have made a much DIFFERENT decision....              ALSO the clinic is aware that if there is any change for the WORSE.... I will be bringing Frankie back in...INSTANTLY.
We will know MORE when the Blood Work is completed... and Certainly MORE when we go back for the follow up Vet Visit on Friday.
I can tell you that I walked into the exam room expecting to hear that he had an infection or a scratched cornea...  something Simple...
I WAS STUNNED and absolutely SHOCKED and TERRIFIED when he started talking about >>>POSSIBLE...   Masses in TWO Locations.
I couldn't THINK and could BARELY BREATHE.    I called Lori...AT WORK...  and am SURE that I was not coherent .
Thank Goodness we had that hour an a half wait for the Ultrasound... so that I could get my wits about me.    AND to REMEMBER that I had that picture on the CAMERA...    and to be PREPARED with QUESTIONS... and to have Thought things Through a bit.
I want you to know that if this were ME that went in for an EYE INFECTION...  and started hearing "POSSIBLE MASS(ES) in two locations...        I would have taken the SAME EXACT course of Action... LET 'S    TRY something Simple .... before we go CRAZY with Tests.
I ASSURE YOU I would be taking Rimadyl and Steroid Drops...  FIRST... and be WATCHING things like a HAWK...   Just as I am with Frankie.
PRAY that the medicines Do their JOB.     I think he looked a LOT better last night.

I want to THANK all of Frankie's Friends for their Kind Loving words and their (What do you call that thing that you send your little friends in need, Ernie?)   OH YES.... Power of the PAW.       PLUS a PHONE CALL from Ernie's little girlfriend, Roxy.
Now what do I do Ernie?

Just get your BUTT off the chair and get outta my way mom.
NOW FUR OUR REAL POST.............................................

OKAY   YESTERDAY we showed you the INTRUDER's GIGANTIC Tracks...

and we told you that he STOMPED DEADED some of our garden Goodies....    so he/or she must have thought that THESE were good fur Paying us Back fur the Damage...     Do you think that is fair Payment???

Ernie was SURE they were DINO DELIGHTS and he was gonna EAT a bunch of it.   I had to have MOM clean it all up and put it.... IN THE GARDEN??????    Yes, that is exactly what she did.   OBVIOUSLY she did not want to defile OUR poop Sculpture place with this crap pressie stuffs.
THESE are our MOM's Red Raspberry Vines...  and below those are a couple of Dad's Grape Vines...  It is a good thingy that IT didn't damage THOSE while IT was Horsing around on OUR HILL.
PeeS....   What EVER it was (and we hope you can help us out with identifying IT) it seems to be Back Down the Road and inside its OWN fence now...   Just sayin.

REMINDER:      TOMORROW is  Double Duty day...
    1.   Advice fur Dui
     2.   Blame it on Somebuddy ELSE day...       Hope you have BOTH thingys going...    Pawhaps #2 should be #1 in your advice to Dui...  Just sayin...

Dearest Frankie, F&E's Mom and Ernie,
It makes our heads hurt how life and health can literally change in the blink of an eye (pardon the poor pun). F&E's Mom, we support your decision 870%.
Frankie, we are keeping our paws crossed that the meds & drops will do the trick - you are in our prayers buddy.
Ernie, you hang in there and keep an eye (sorry, once again not intended) on your big brother and keep us updated, ok?
POTP!

Well, at least our Mommy wasn't eating breakfast when she was reading the bottom of this post -- or she would have lost her appetite looking at all the patties! LOL. Pawsonally, us dog's see nothing wrong with those poo pictures. I wish this computer had smell-o-vision or something --- those piles must smell heavenly!

On a serious note, we do hope Frankie's eyes get better real soon. We will keep the POTP coming.

Your Mom is one strong cookie. My Mom would be in the looney bin when she heard the word MASS. Frankie, me and my pack (including the peep pack) will keep sending POTP and lots of prayers for a good outcome...like just an infection.

Poor Mom! We know just how you feel. Our Mommy felt the same way when I ruptured my disk. Panic and tears all around. We're glad you are trying the eye drops first and got all the x-rays and ultrasounds out of the way. The specialist would probably want the infection to clear first anyways.

Hope you're feeling better REAL soon Frankie!

We are here for you and are sending you all our love and good Doxie vibes.

Hugs,

Sometimes the hardest thing to do is WAIT when the dogtor starts talking about all sorts of skeery possibilities. Momma went through something similar with BOTH my kitty siblings at different times, when the vet was talking about lots of different pawsibilities and tests to run. She decided the best thing to do was WAIT and let the meds run their course. Both times it worked out just FINE. We know you have Frankie's best interests at heart, and he'll be all better soon with all the POTP he's getting!

FRANKIE your momma sounds just like MY momma holey mole and guess what you are taking just what mesa and Stella Rose takes everyday, first the pain meds for our wonky eyes, and then the steroids, and when the steroids are done, we take other stuff cos we have no tears, it is a constant battle at our house, cos as soon as we see our mom go to the cabinet we RUN!!! We are saying prayers for you and your momma bof!!

We are glad Frankie looks a bit better today. Maybe when all is said and done it will be an infection and meds will fix him up. Of course there is always the possibility that he will need to wear glasses. He is getting old enough to need glasses anyway so that shouldn't be too unexpected. We are keeping our paws crossed for him and hope tomorrow will bring some good news!!

Your Pals,

Murphy & Stanley

Pee Ess - Pssst Ernie . . . that was the right thing to do to let your mom borrow your bloggy but if she starts talking about being an agent we just can't have that. You might want to keep an eye on her. Oh, and maybe tell her some jokes to keep her worries off Frankie. Peace Out Bro!

Oh dear. I just snuck away to California and back without anyone noticing and THIS is what I missed? DOUBLE DUTY POTP FOR FRANKIE! I'll make sure Buddy and Bella does the same. I will be sure to keep a closer eye on your blog for updates. Taking the conservative approach is OK, after all you don't know what it is. It may just be an infection and going to drastic measures would be costly and take a toll on the little furball. Freddy went through so much, so I don't blame you one bit. Hang in there, Frankie! And you, Ernest, keep your eye on everything now, and your nose out of the raspberry garden.

We hope Frankie gets better. Our Miss Ginger (who went to doggie heaven in 2010 and we miss her so much!) had a lot of eye problems and had a total of four surgeries! She had juvenile cataracts and then glaucoma (cocker spaniel genetic problems) and finally lost her sight. She never lost her spirit and was always full of ginger! Good luck Frankie. We'll be thinking about you!

I would have done the exact same thing for myself and my dogs. All the evidence you had suggested this is the best treatment. It isn't about not spending $ for the treatment, it is only spending the $ if you need to.

Our paws are crossed that it clears up in no time.

Ernie keep taking care of your brother and your Mom. They need you right now.

Mom, I know the Internet can be a tough place, but please know you are an awesome Dog Mom. While I know why you felt the need to justify your choices, know that we all know you made a thoughtful and considered decision about how to proceed and we all respect you for it.

Lots of prayers still going on for Frankie.
