Tessa is a WINNER!!

Hey Everybuddy,
I just found out that TESS got the mostest SLURPS during the Blogville Back to School Extravaganza... CONGRATULATIONS GIRRRRL.. YOU GOT 25 SLURPS.. NOW... please email your addy to me... I have a little something fur you!!!
I am still workin on my deer antlers... and FRESH BONES and little bits of RAW meat.. It is GRRRRREAT.. I'm just sayin. Our furends from the Land of OZ wanted to know a bit about the hunting and stuffs..
I love in a very RURAL... Hilly... Wooded area. There are a LOT of deer in this area. In Fact, they are causing lots of problems fur Farmers.
My dad loves to hunt. Butt he does NOT hunt anythingy that we don't EAT.
My mom Cans Most of the meat. She then uses the Meat and the Broth fur stuffs like Soup Stew Noodles Sloppy Joes and sometimes just to nibble on.
Canning it makes the meat very tender and moist. Mom and dad cut the meat into 1 inch cubes (sort of ) and they go RAW... into a quart jar with 1 teaspoon of salt. Then the seals are put on and held in place with the metal bands. Seven quarts fit in the canner at a time. Once the pressure comes up to 10 pounds it takes 90 minutes fur the meat to COOK .. Right in the jars. Then it takes about 1/2 an hour or so for the pressure to come back down and the HOT jars can be taken out... and MORE jars put back in. The average is about 2 pounds of cubes per jar. An average sized deer usually makes about 12 to 14 quarts of meat. There isn't as much meat on a deer as you would think. BUTT.... that total does NOT count the Tenderloins. This deer had two 18 inch long tenderloins. THAT is the PRIMO meat. My mom froze those... and will cook them in gravy. It is DELICIOUS. One year my dad got a HOOOOOGE BUCK and the tenderloins were 36 inches long!!!
The difference between HORNS and ANTLERS is... Horns keep growing year after year butt Antlers fall off every spring and the deer grow new ones every summer.
They are made of calcium and a lot of other minerals. I think they have a grrrrreat flavor.. butt Mom says they do not have ANY smell... Pffffffft What does SHE know??? Butt she IS right that they don't splinter so they are grrrrrreat and Totally SAFE fur us to gnaw on. They are hard like leg bones.
The Meat of a deer is very deep red. They do not have much fat so the meat is very healthy fur peeps to eat... and US TOO.. I NEVER get enough Deer to suit me. I'm just sayin. I hope that wasn't Too Much Information fur you.

Congrats to Tessa! We think she is very slurp able:).

We have never had deer to eat, but we sure would live those antlers. Mom says they are too expensive for her to keep four of us supplied:(

Enjoy all that yummy meat.

Congrats my furend Tessa..... wonder how many slurps Louis got from you???!!! Hmmm??

We don't have any such thing as antlers here to chew on, there isn't a huge deer population - probably just in the zoos. The greedy zoo keepers probably snatch up any fallen antlers and give them to their doggies?!

When Hubby is lucky, we have venison at our house, too. I've never heard of canning it, though. We'll have to check that out.

OMD I won???? Wow that is so pawsome! I can hardly believe it!

I sure do envy you Frankie. Mom used to hunt deer many moons ago. She very much missed deer meat. So enjoy a few bites for my Mom!

So Frankie, are you gonna can some of your antlers for winter or just put them in the cellar?? BOL

woos, Tessa

You are so lucky, we have never had deer meat. Grandpa use to hunt when Mommy was little so she has had it and she says it is yummy. Grandpa got a buck with a nice rack once and Mommy helped he mount the head. It hangs in the Grandparents garage these days.

Congrats to Tessa.

Mom remembers several years of Grandpa trying to make the perfect jerky with some of his deer meat! She said she thinks it has a slightly richer flavor than beef, too. It's definitely better for you!

Hi Mr Frankie, thanks so much for explaining about the deer business. It sounds to me like you live the best life. I have never (or mum hasn't) heard of preserving the meat like your mum and dad do. As for those antlers, now we want some but we probably don't have them here for doggies to chew.
Have fun. Oh and congratulations to Tessa for the most slurps. Have a great day.
No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

Congrats to Tessa! Mike likes deer meat and gets some from the son-in-law because Mike won't shoot anything. Beth doesn't like meat so I would say she would be happy to go without....
