WHAT ARE THEY??? you ask.... a FUNGUS called MORELS.... YEP a WILD MUSHROOM that is SAFE to EAT... DELICIOUSLY Safe to eat...
Dad has not found very many this year.... The first few .... MOM DRIED in the SUN.... then she choppered them all up in this machine thingy she has.... the Powder and tiny pieces will be DELIGHTFUL to have mixed in with Scrambled Eggs or BUSGHETTI....
THESE are some FRESH ONES that mom puts in the SINK and WASHES and removes any BUGS and such from....
THEN she splits them and lets them DRAIN a while...
THEN she Flours them and FRIES them...
Furst ONE Side....
And THEN the OTHER....
Do you like her NEW BLUE SQUARE SKILLET????
That is an INSIDE JOKE...
Now we live in an area that is FAMOUS for Coal Mining.... and once the Miners got Union Contracts...... they put in a FLOATING HOLIDAY.... that they could use for MUSHROOM HUNTING DAY...... they would watch and wait until the MORELS were at their PICKING PEAK.... and CLOSE DOWN THE MINES TOTALLY for ONE DAY... so the Miners could go Mushroom Hunting..
THAT was the ONE AND ONLY day of the ENTIRE YEAR that the Mines were TOTALLY Closed.
Does THAT tell you just how FABULOUS these Spring Mushroom Really ARE?

What? Edible mushrooms grow where you live? That is too cool. I think we only have weird poisonous mushrooms here...or maybe the ones that are a little hallucinogenic. BOL One time we saw one of those Magic Mushrooms growing in our neighbor's yard...the ones that are bright red on top.

Our pawrents enjoy a good mushroom. Maybe we can stop by so they can taste one?

Wow! Sometimes our Joanna human finds good mushrooms in the woods behind her house.
I don't eat any roons. and Mom's not a big fan of dem either so... we live is a roon free environment.
On da other hand.... I do like to hunt and huntin roons could be fun. Enjoy your roons!

Those things scare us. How do you know they are not poisonous? When do we start planting our milk bone seeds?
Lily & Edward
My Gramma might be into those. Mom is picky and doesn't like mushrooms or morels. Looks like they would be tasty if you like that kind of thing.
There's a fungus among us! Ha, ha, ha!!!
Mommy said they look yummy.
Hugs,
Lily Belle & Muffin
It has to be the square blue skillet that gives them the special flavor.
Wow, those must be pretty amazing mushrooms!
Yum yum yum.
They must be taste if an entire factory shuts down just so everyone one can go out huntin' mushrooms.
Aroo to you,
Sully
We are a little leary of mushrooms at our house. but those are very distinctive looking so you must know what you are eating

That's interesting that they closed the mine down for a Morel hunt!

We've just read this BEFORE breakfast. SHE's droolin'. Would love those....
Our dad is the best woodtick finder when he goes into the woods, to bad we can't eat them.

We have never had morels, but Mom loves mushrooms. We bet she would love to taste those breaded ones. Maybe she needs to check out our stores to see if they have any:)
Great story about the miners.

Those must be super scrumptious mushrooms for your mines to close down for an entire day! We just love how your mom preserves stuff, she is so clever.
Wally & Sammy
OMD! They actually close down the mines to go pick mushrooms? What a cool holiday! My mom doesn't know about mushrooms so she keeps us away from all of them. She eats mushrooms all of the time and fried are her favorites!
That is a very cool story and I'm not sure what the pan joke is, but I do love that pan. Can you ask your mom where I could get one?
