Grape JUICE

Here on the Hill..... we live it up pretty good...      BUTT some thingys that mom and dad Grow in the garden... or go other places to pick.. are NOT good fur US... Like we can't eat ANY of the ONIONS that Dad Plants... BOO HOO...   or the foods mom cooks with them    Double BOO HOO...   and we can't have any GRAPE JUICE...   BUTT we did go HELP with the Picking...   which was done on an ORCHARD about 15 mins.. from our house.
So on Monday Sept. 8th.. we went to pick.....   119 pounds of Concord Grapes... once they were weighed.    MINUS the weight of the BUCKETS...
Here is a pic of the buckets ... on our front porch.... THAT is where dad picks the grapes off their bones...

THIS is a bucket of   Picked from the bones   grapes...    ERNIE kept an Eye on dad... to be sure he got the entire stem off EVERY SINGLE Grape...
HEY DAD..... you missed a STEM...   get em done RIGHT or mom will have a SQUIRREL FIT.
THESE are the Grape BONES once the Grapes are picked OFF.... CORRECTLY.
The NEXT step is to wash the grapes....  THREE TIMES...
Then drain and put them in a pan...     for each QUART it takes a CUP of Grapes and 1/2 cup of sugar and enough  BOILING water to leave 1/4" head space...    Then the Seal and Ring go on... and the HOT jars go into a Boiling water Bath...   for 15 mins..
As you can see by the CLOCK that Ruby and Penny gave to ME fur our FURST Anniversary...  it was 5 after 1 when the First Jars came outta the Hot Water Bath Canner...    We started picking in the orchard at 10:00 AM...   so it takes some time to get the whole thingy going strong...
At 8:30 PM that night..... we were FINALLY FINISHED...  we had   115 Quarts of Juice and the Kitchen was cleaned up.     Mom and Dad had Grape Juice for Breakfast on Tuesday Morning... and will do that EVERY MORNING... from NOW until all 115 quarts are GONE...  in April.
Guess what?    Since they started doing this... they have NEVER had a Cold.    There is a LOT of Vitamin C and antioxidants and stuffs in those jars.        PURPLE GOODNESS.   BUTT NOT fur US.

They could be mistaken for blueberries (which we love) in those photos and we love blueberries. My mom loves grape juice. Says it reminds her of being a little girl.

Wow. Mom has never thought of grape juice, only jelly and stuff. Interesting! Good thing you were there to snoopervise the stems, you don't want that in your juice! Blech!

We usually cook them for a while and then put them through a food mill to get out the seeds.

Oh dawg...that is a LOT of grape juice. My Ma is totally jealous because she has tried to can stuffs...like her homemade tomato sauce...and the cans always pop and unseal. She does it just like Uncle Rob taught her and nothing...everything goes bad. She is hopeless. You are so lucky you have humans who can "can" deliciousness.

Well great grapes Batman! Those buckets are filled to the brim and look really yummy. Bet that's the best juice ever. Maybe Mommy should get off her butt and give up her nursing duties for a few hours and do that for our Daddy.

How cool is that. Wonder if we could do that around here since there are tons of grapes up north. Proof it works to fight germs

WOW that was a lot of grapes...and it made a lot of juice! Since Momma says grapes are no good for dogs I've never gotten to try them...but she says they are delicious for people and that grape juice is one of her favorite things.

WOWZA! Is there nothing your peeps can't do? My mom said she picked grapes with her grandad when she was little and she could not have any of the juice either because it was wine :)

That sounds like a great remedy to ward off colds and stuff. Better that you even grow your own grapes.

Wow...fascinating stuff!! And we're so impressed with your self-discipline, all that snoopervising butt not a single grape was eaten by either of you, nicely done.

I'm getting a real education, here! I am also not allowed to drink poison grape juice, but Mom buys it at the store because it's good for her blood. My blood is on its own - because I'm a dog!

That's very cool. So the grapes are picked to make juice with, not jam or just for eating?

Ohhh! That sounds yummy! My father-in-law used to grow grapes for his wine along with muscadines! I'm sure the grape juice is MUCH safer! ☺
