OUT of the VORTEX..... and nearly out of GAS

Our house is primarily heated with PROPANE...   we DO have a Wood Burner... and during the Invasion of the Polar Vortex it was fired up constantly...  BUT just so you know what it was like to keep WARM during that time here is some information about our PROPANE TANK and how much we used.

On Oct. 25th 2013  Mom checked the Gauge on the tank...  it was 60% full.
Then on January 5th she checked it Again   That was the Day Before the Arrival of the VORTEX ... and it was at 50%.    And remember that we had ALREADY had a pretty Rough Cold Snowy Fall and starting to the winter...      So using only 10% in all that time wasn't bad at all.     BUTT WAIT...  there's MORE...
Our Gas Delivery guy came on January 9th...   right After the Vortex went back where it belonged.     He found that the tank was at 39%    OR.... in other words...   we used 11% in just those 4 days.

Oct 25     60%
Jan 5       50%
Jan 9       39%

Now in ALL of Last year we only used 40% of what was in our tank.    And that included all the Cooking Baking and Canning of veggies and fruit since our stove and oven are propane also.
In Sept.of 2012 we had a dump truck of wood brought in...  and we had so much left over that THIS September we did NOT need to buy ANY WOOD.    Butt we surely have made a Dent in the Wood Shed THIS year....

AND..... are you ready fur this?????
The weather blabbers are sayin that by This Friday... we will have ANOTHER really cold spell.... not quite a bad as the    -13° F  actual air temps of Jan. 3rd. & 4th... butt CLOSE.

So to Sum it up...    we say...
Last winter was MILD....  and THIS ONE IS WILD !!!

we guess we will have our SNOWMOBILE (aka the 4-wheeler) in use fur a while longer.
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

That is a big difference but what ya going to do - gotta keep the paws warm. We haven't had nearly the cold weather you guys have had but even so our system has been running on emergency heat a lot to just cope with the cold! Not looking forward to the power bill this month !!! We read in the farmers almanac that there would be another cold week coming :(

Wow that is cold if you used that much propane! We got 4 cords of wood in the fall and half are gone. I guess we will need 6 next year! This week has been much milder (above freezing). The weather is all crazy. Stay warm! Lee and Phod

LOL and our last Winter was wild and this year is mild. Mind you the weather now is nippy and it seems to be getting colder. Stay warm and we are hoping you all have an early Spring. Have a serene Sunday.
Best wishes Molly
Get some big easy on today.

I dislike winter, because we have IR-heaters what need a lot of power (literally). I think our electric company should be more grateful for our generous sponsoring, but we not even got a christmas card. Scandalous.
