Our MILKBONE Harvest....

FURST.... today is FRIDAY the 13th..     We want to wish you ALL VERY Good LUCK today.

Rembember back in the SPRING when we planted our Milkbone Seeds...  WELL they must have really liked their Season in the Sun beclaws we got a BUMPER CROP of them this year.

There is NOTHING better than a HOME GROWN MILKBONE...
BUTT it is REALLY hard to WAIT until they are at their PEAK of Flavor and Size.
LOOK WHAT ERNIE DID.... He ate HALF a Milkbone... RIGHT OFF THE BUSH.
It took like 87 minutes fur us to get them Picked... and Rushed to the house.
We had Mom CAN a BUNCH of them fur us so that they will KEEP FRESH fur Cold WINTER Evening Eating.      You gotta Pick and Can FAST so that they don't lose a BIT of their Crunch and Flavor.
PeeS....   Some of you asked about the POTATOES that Mom Canned...     NO... they will NOT spoil.   The jars will sit on the Shelves in Jennifer Jeep's Room (aka the garage) with NO refrigeration needed.      BUTT you have to know a lot of Rules... like being CLEAN and doing the SEALS right... and NEVER to furget to put some White Vinegar in the canner... so White Film (Calcium) from the water won't get all over the jars and seals.
Mom has two types of Canners...  ONE is fur stuffs like tomato Juice and grape juice that have High Acid.  THAT is the Hot Water Bath Canner.       Then she has a PRESSURE CANNER..     For the Potatoes, Green Beans, and Corn AND  DEER MEAT... you have to use THAT type.   It has to be kept at 10 #'s Pressure for 40 minutes.   Then when the pressure comes down and the jars start to cool... the SEALS "POP" and all the stuffs INSIDE is totally safe to eat fur at LEAST a year or two.
PeePeeS... the Deer Meat takes LONGER... 90 mins.     When you open a jar it is ALL COOKED and ready to eat... just like TUNA in a can.     In Fact... everythingy that is Safely Home Canned... is fully cooked and ready to Eat or Drink.
Both types of canners hold just 7 quarts at a time.

What a GREAT crop this year! You are so lucky to have such a wonderful harvest. Ernie really ate one right off the tree? Good thing it wasn't raw or filled with bugs.

Now we have two questions... Because you store the 'tatoes out with Jennifer Jeep, don't they get all frozen and stuff? And is Jennifer Jeep allowed to eat any of them if she gets hungry?

Hugs,
Lily Belle & Muffin

Oh my you had a really nice crop this year. This was my first year of planting and I didn't have quite as many, but hopefully next year. They taste so much better when they are fresh like that. It makes me spoiled for the store bought kind, how about you??

Oh my dog, it's AMAZING! What a beautiful bounty of milk bones!

My grandma used to can lots of things, but not potatoes. Didn't know that was possible. Glad you won't have to waste any of those yummy potatoes.

Hey F-n-E!
Wow, what a great crop this year! Home grown always tastes better than the box version. BOL I think next year you should plant bunches and set up a stand to sell them. Think of all the green papers you could earn...and the toys you could buy with them! Gee, I'm kinda hungry now, so I'll go ask Dad for a milkbone snacken.

Our mom told us that her mom used to always smile when she heard the lids seal when she canned. Of course we will never hear this for ourselves. Maybe we can get mom to plant a milkbone bush. Looks like you got a very good crop!

Mom Kim here - sure does look like you have got a bumper crop of Milkbones for winter - hope Ernie doesn't get sick from eating that one off the bush.

Right now I don't/can't stay online long - since I have to stand close to the monitor to read, it bothers my back but when I read all the lovely comments on our blog, any discomfort is gone - that is overshadowed by all the gratitude and warm fuzzies I feel.

I know Shiloh'n Diva Shasta sure wish they had a Milkbone bush but they are well stocked with all kinds of treats, including some Milkbones as well as their raw veggies and cottage cheese that they love.

Need to go sit ddown for awhile and snuggle with the B-bratz who are doing quite well after their dinner of kibble, the white of a hard boiled egg and veggies - they are not lacking :)
