These are some blossoms in our MIMOSA (not to be confused with the Drink) TREE.
I had my mom take pictures last NIGHT so you could see how the leaves all FOLD UP when it starts getting dark... Mimosa trees are in the Sensitive Plant Family and that is what they do... BUTT at night it is difficult to see the bright PINK of the blossoms.. they come out looking kinda purple.
She got a little closer here that you could see the leaves in the DAY time... see how flat and FERN LIKE they are in the daytime? When we moved here there was ONE Mimosa tree... BUTT it got REALLY REALLY big and went OVER the TOP of the HOUSE and was starting to interfere with my Satellite Receiver fur MY InterMUTTS... so they started two NEW trees and then cut DOWN the Old one. THIS is the furst summer that the new ones have bloomed. The Humming Birds and Bees just LOVE the blossoms. If you touch a blossom they are soooooo sticky that you can't hardly get them off. It is VERY VERY rare for a Mimosa to actually LIVE (let alone BLOSSOM) this far NORTH. Ours is on the SOUTHeast side of the house and is very well protected. We think that is why it does so well. PeeS... the DRINK is made with... Orange Juice and Champagne.
Some of you asked about MY humming birds... They are RUBY THROATED ones. They usually arrive in Late April and we are suppose to STOP Feeding them the first week of September... so that it helps them to start their return trip to Florida for the winter. This is the first year in the last 4, that we have had THIS many.... Last night Mom counted 10 at one time... Drinking and flying and perching near the feeders.
FIVE years ago... mom had to have 6 Feeders out and was going through a GALLON of Feed EVERY DAY. Last year we only had 3 hummers. So we are REALLY thrilled with the additional 7.
PeeS..... Olympics are Coming SOOOOOOOOON I just wanted to leave you with this.. I will have a DAILY POST Up... with LINKS to the Events for that day. Some of the hosts will be putting up the Mr. Linky thingy also... It is gonna be the biggest BLAST in Blogville history.

Hi Frankie, your hummers are very cute! Mommy had one come to her garden several years ago. It was ruby throated too! Aren't they precious?
Licks,
Ruthie
That tree sure is pretty, my grandhuman has a couple, she calls them "silk trees" though. They bring lots of birds to her yard!
I did not know the interesting facts about Mimosa they certainly are pretty.
Mom has a severe case of humming bird

First off Frankie, I didn't know you were into Champagne! We thought you took up the love of beer just like Puddles.
Secondly, give us back our Hummers... Or at least share them with us. We miss having them here. You are SOOO lucky to have so many of them. We saw our ONE this morning buzzing around. We miss having so many of them. Maybe ours went elsewhere because of our extreme heat and drought. I'm glad tho that you are taking such good care of them. Mommy gots NO pictures this year of her. Yes, our RTH is a girl. We are willing to trade you ~ I'll give you a racoon and 35 squirrels for 2 Hummers.
Thirdly, we are jonesing over here because it's just a few more days until the Olympics. We are soooo excited!
Hugs,
Lily Belle

We love hummers too! Already have some drinking from our feeders in WI.
You know if you spill the drink it is sticky too. I have not seen any hummer this year, but I have a TON of dragon flies. You know what? I curl up at night too.

Goose

Our Nonna had a mimosa tree in her yard and she always called it a dirty tree and mom always wondered why because she thinks they're just beautiful. It must have been the stick blossoms when they fell?
Love ya lots,
Mitch and Molly
Maybe the hummers knew you were going to serve them MIMOSAs this year.
