My Beloved Ruby

I just wanted to show you this picture of my Beloved Wife RUBY after she had her annual shots the other day. Ruby is FINE... NOW... butt...

Just look at what happened to her. She had a bad reaction and got all swollen. She had to go BACK to the Dawgtor... and have ANOTHER SHOT... to stop the reaction. She will have to take meddies fur a few days... butt that is fine... as long as my beloved Ruby is safe and well. Our Mom J. was so worried that she stayed up ALL NIGHT to be sure Ruby was breathing right.
I LOVE my Mom In Paw... She is the BESTEST. Poor Penny was worried about her sister too.

You might remember that this recently happend to PUDDLES also. AND many many years ago it happened to Baron... who was the Last of the Short Hairs that mom and dad had.

And THIS is the reason that my mom REFUSES to all allow my VET Dawgtor to give me all of MY shots at one time. From the day that Baron had the reaction.. she has REFUSED to allow all the shots to be given even in the same WEEK. The VET finally Stopped giving my mom a hard time about this issue... She just refuses to allow it to happen. No Combo Shots fur any of the dawgs in her life.....PERIOD....
I am just thanking the grrrreat Dawg that Ruby is fine now and that Penny wasn't effected at all. WHEW

PeeS... I would like to thank everybuddy who added their sweet words of support in your comments yesterday. Ronnii and Richie's Momma Tea is such a fine lady. I wanted to do SOMETHING to let her know that she is not in this alone. WE are here fur her.

It didn't hurt at all...in fact, I felt sooooo good afterwards.. if you get my drift!!!!!

Poor Ruby, I am so glad she is OK. I don't have my shots all at once either. My brother Sweet Pea (our 20 year old cat) has always had problems with vaccines and the vet finally stopped giving him his shots about 8 years ago.

Your pal, Pip

P.S.: I will soon be joining you in the fur free club.

Oks....what goes on here...What is it wit weenies and reactions all of a sudden. I tells everyones bout my brudder Max (DaOdderWeenie)'s bad reactions to da rabies shot and den Puddles has a reaction and now Ruby. Max's bad reaction is to da rabies shot. He has to stay at da vet's all day long when he gets dem so dey can give him anti-reaction shots all day. Da odder shots he got on anudder day but da last time he got very, very sick so da vet said no more shots for him.

Oh Frankie, I do hope you sent her lots of kisses to feel better. You know, a few treats wouldn't hurt either. I totally had a bad reaction also, and mom had to shove human benadryl down my throat. It was horrible! It was so weird, b/c within minutes my eyes were nearly swollen shut and I had huge hives all over.
One shot at a time fo sho!

Hi Frankie,
I am here I am here!!!!! It has been soso long!! So happy to visit with you Frankie!! Soo happy!!!
We have been through the same thing that Ruby went through!! Bambi almost died!! By the time Bambi was 4 years old she had to have her shots one by one and longer and longer in between shots!! When Bambi was 9 years old she had a bad reaction to the rabies shot!!!!! She swelled up almost all over and started throwing up!!! This went on for 33 days!!! She throw up 3 to 5 times a day and I had to force water down her just to keep her alive! Needless to say she has not had a rabies shot since!! That was a very scary time!!!!! I am glad Ruby is Ok now but tell her look out it only gets worse with age!!
Thanks so much for your visit!!

Poor Ruby! Hawk had a reaction to his shots and our vet gave him an exemption from having them done anymore. We get three year rabies shots so we don't have to worry as often, either! I hope Ruby is feeling better soon!

We thought Ruby was a stuffie in the picture at first.

Dear Frankie
I can understand how worried you must have been about your wife,
My Mum had a sheltie once he has crossed the bridge, when he was a puppy he had the same reaction the first time he had his shots and had to have an injection to stop the swelling, but was fine for years and years afterwards, but it is a worry for our Humans when they want to take the best care of us.
Hope your weather is warming up on your hill. it is still very hot in the land downunder
Lots of tail wags from your mate

I forgot something, I did not realize everyone was getting sick from the Rabie's shots, that is so frightening,
Australia does not have rabie's so I do not need that shot, I am so happy about that. I know my mum would not let Dr Kym give it to me with everything else.

We're so sorry to read about Ruby's terrible experience, and we're very glad she's better. When she reflects on it, we're sure Ruby will appreciate your doing such an informative PSA for all the other doggies, in keeping with your duties as Mayor of Blogville.

We were also very touched to read of your gallant gesture of support for Richie's mom. We're all keeping our paws crossed for her.

Oh nos Frankie! That is terrible about Ruby! Glad she is going to be OK. Momma does not get why the vet is in such a hurry to give the shots. They seem to want to see me all the time so why not just make me come back a few times? Sheesh!
