Who Says a Postal Service Carrier and a Dog Don’t Mix?
Famed Dachshund Loves Carrier

Corning Rural Carrier Patricia Jenks and Frankie Furter.

Corning Rural Carrier Patricia Jenks has a very popular and quite dashing customer on her route — a
four-and-a-half-year old Dachshund named “Frankie Furter.”

She and Postmaster Serena Lanning say to know Frankie is to love him. “He gets a lot of mail,” says Jenks. “Frankie receives both packages and letters, even international letters,” she adds.

Is It Puppy Love? Perhaps not really, but there is no doubt this pooch is well loved. Much of Frankie’s popularity stems from his website blog — frankiefurterprice.blogspot.com. Owners Ken and Lowana Price say Frankie really appreciates the Postal Service.

“He loves to receive and open the many packages he gets from his fans — both domestic and abroad,” notes Lanning. “He sent Patricia a ‘thank you’ note in appreciation of her delivering his letters and packages. Frankie calls Patricia ‘The Bestest Mail Lady in the Whole World.’ ”

Lowana Price says Frankie is mailing 87 cards this year to fellow canine friends he has in Malaysia, Australia, the Philippines, Canada and England.

A self-supporting government enterprise, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that reaches every address in the nation, 150 million residences, businesses and Post Office Boxes. The Postal Service receives no tax dollars. With 36,000 retail locations and the most frequently visited website in the federal government, the Postal Service relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses. Named the Most Trusted Government Agency five consecutive years and the sixth Most Trusted Business in the nation by the Ponemon Institute, the Postal Service has annual revenue of more than $68 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail. If it were a private sector company, the U.S. Postal Service would rank 26th in the 2008 Fortune 500.

Is he gone, mama of Frankie?

Okay...here's our deal. We have a snowman lamp to be bid on at Blueberry's auction. So far (sadly) the poor guy hasn't got a home to go to yet. If he still has no bid at auctions close, would you like for us to send him to you?

Much luv,

What a very special article!!! We think it honors both you and Miss Pattie very well. Thanks for sharing it with us. Our grandfather was the Superintendent of Collections and Deliveries for the P.O. when our Mom was a little girl. Sadly we didn't know him, but he was a pup lover too.

Excellent job, Frankie! You're a media star! Always good to have good relations between the different branches of government.

Are you gonna name Sarge your Secretary of Defense? Or Police Chief? Director of Public Safety?Looks like you need someone who's both smooth and tough to ensure you have good relations with the human po po, just in case. Come to think of it, Miss Lacie might be a better candidate. Sarge can head your bodyguard detail.

Abby is available for judicial appointments.
