301

This is one of a pair of Loons. They were roosting too far apart for mom to get a pic of both of them at once.

This is one of the LOONS as it is taking off from the water. It shows the splashes that its feet and tail made. It was moving sooooo fast that the bird is kind of out of focus. I like the picture though.
This is my dad's nef you. His name is Mark. We met up with him on Tues. afternoon as he was getting ready to go out on a bass Tournament. More about that later.
These are just 3 of the reasons that we love our lake. There is always something interesting to see and do. I don't think I have ever told you the history of Burr Oak Lake. It is a man made lake. The work started in 1947. That is very much long ago. The area was nothing but a huge forest when they started. They had to use teams of horses to do some of the work because there were no roads to get in there. The lake is fed by both springs and one small creek.
There is only one private home that can be seen from the lake. There is also a state run Lodge, butt you can hardly see it because of all the trees. There are no bars or restaurants like there are on some lakes. This is all state property. It is in the Wayne National Forest.
The state record BASS was caught in Burr Oak Lake. Butt dad doesn't fish for bass much.
Mark called us last night. He had only fished about ten mins. when he hooked a HUGE bass. He got it clear to the side of the boat. He and his fishing partner both saw it... butt it got off the hook. Darn. Of course all the fish caught in a tourny are released right after they are counted and weighed. Mark is still excited about the ALMOST... just to see a fish that big is grrrreat.
I do have some more pictures of the LOONS that I might put in for you some other day. They are really strange. When they are in the water the only part you can really see is their long neck and head. The rest is usually clear under water. Boy can they ever dive and swim. Neat birds.
We still love and are proud of Mark, even though he didn't win the tourny. he he he.
I hope that I didn't bore you with all this lake info.. I just wanted to share with you.

Hi there F. D. P. & L.,
Nope, he sure enough did not catch anything eating.
We mostly do that Catch and Release thingy.
Except when we go to Pennsylvania and catch those delicious trout. Nice to meet you. Hope we can become furends.
