Livin off the Land...

Spring is finally here... well sort of... It is supposed to be the time when gardens are getting tilled and stuff getting ready to be planted... AND... this is WILD MUSHROOM season in Ohio.. butt beclaws of all the COLD and the RAIN... we aren't getting very many Morels. THESE are the bestest TREAT of the spring. Yesterday my dad went to the woods to see what he could find... He had to wait fur One storm to go away... and while he was out... which was only about and hour... another STORM started heading in. SOOOOOO he wasn't able to stay in the woods as long as he would have liked.
I put some on a white paper towel so you can see what they look like.

This is them laying on my counter... so that you can see how DIFFICULT it is to see them.. when they are in the woods. They blend right in with the dead leaves and stuffs. My mom will cut them Lengthwise and soak them in cold water. Then dry them a bit and put them in flour and then FRY them. My mom was talking to Jazzi's Mom on the phone while she was frying them yesterday!!! She got 4 skillets full. We had THOSE DELICIOUS thingys.. along with.. my mom's Cabbage Patch... which is what she makes Instead of Cabbage Rolls. hehehe

YUMMMMMMMMM. That is all I can say about a dinner of Cabbage (from last year's garden) Patch and MUSHROOM SANDWICHES. HEAVENLY.

This is a set of pictures of my poor pitiful SOAKING wet... FLOODED garden. Look at the rain water running off.. and taking my good rich soil with it! BAH. THIS is not right.

It is sooooooo WRONG that April 2011 has become the NEW... all time record... WETTEST April on RECORD. It is just Totally Soggy. The poor farmers can't get into their fields. It is just BAD I tell you.

These are the furst of our green onions... I guess if I could ever get in without sinking up to my TAIL.. they will pull up easily. I don't eat these.. butt my mom and dad do.

We can't even get in to pull WEEDS and I think our Sugar Snap Peas are gonna Drown.

Mom did get a couple of spears of Asparagus... butt she will now have to Hose off her garden boots.

Rain Rain.... GO AWAY.

Oh Frankie, we're so sorry you got all that rain. We don't got hardly any in our part of Texas. They been having lots of wild fires in the country. You could send so of that rain over her.

Your poor garden. Mommy wishes we had a garden like yours. Them mushrooms look interesting. Mommy loves mushroom frittats. We think them look like fox tails.

We are not mushroom fans but here they are delicious. We wish the rains would stop as well. We haven't even got our garden in yet. We pray your garden will survive the downpours. Sniffs, The HoundDogs

We have had a fair amount of rain too, but not as bad as yours. Hope the garden area dries up soon - that seems like an odd hope, doesn't it?

We have mushrooms popping up all over our yard, but Mom says they aren't tasty like yours.

Enjoy your delicious-sounding dinner.

From the mom - yep, did get your package - haven't had a chance to try it tho because of the weather - first sunny day we have had for a while and I am stuck at work. Will post about it when my internet is back. Shiloh'n Shasta DID love the yummy treats - don't need good weather to try them.

By the way, have you heard from Puddles - places in Georgia got hit with tornadoes too.

Can you go swimming in your garden? Wouldn't bother my two at all, especially if there was something there worth digging for.
Gotta go for now.

Those things are ugly looking. Your Paw needs to put them back in the woods. I sure wouldn't touch those things. We like exploring and seeing all your stuffs

We're feeling the same way about the rain here. We haven't even been able to till our garden, it's been so wet and rainy! Mom will get very cranky if she can't get her tomatoes planted!

Oh no! Your poor garden.

Frankie, could you pass a little message on to your mom for me?

Just to answer your question on my blog, No, I'm not going into teaching, I'm already a teacher! Well, kind of. I'm not sure how the profession is doing in the States, but here, in Canada, it's been very difficult to get a permanent job. They keep accepting more and more teachers into college, and then telling them on graduation day that the wait time for a contract job is 8-11 years. I graduated from teachers college in 2007 and have been supplying and covering maternity leaves ever since. Right now I am teaching Grade 1 half time. I have yet to land a permanent job. But I have been taking courses and staying up to date on my professional development. I will hopefully have my reading specialist in June!

How long did you teach for? And what grades?

Rain rain go away come back another day, I mean year!

Those mushrooms look SO YUMMY! My mom loves mushrooms of all kinds and adds them to everything! My little sister even likes them, which I think is unusual for a little human her age.

Hope your garden dries out soon!

Your pal, Pip
