a Frankie Public Service Announcement

This is the front page of the Zanesville, OH Times Recorder from yesterday. I knew it wasn't this bad last year. Today marks the 11th. day in a row for snow or at least flurries here. Tomorrow we are expecting Colorado (thank you very much... NOT) to send us 15 degrees and an all day snow that will give us 3 to 6 MORE inches of snow. NOTE: I did have to make one minor correction to this article. I'm sure you will recognize it. This article was also on the front page. I put it here for my for real furends (Bacall, Atticus, Austin, and Angus) who were our TEMPORARY neighbors last summer. Their dad (Loren) brought their mom (Brandie, who is a fine girl) and them here beclaws he was a welder on this multi-state natural gas pipeline. When his work was finished here they all went back to Oklahoma. I was very much sad to see them go. So were my mom and dad. We just LOVED them all.
So anyway, there have been some problems with the pipeline and that is what the article is all about. Mom and dad and I are all hoping that Loren might get called back to help fix the problems. It would make us all very much happy. I could play with my FURENDS, and mom could cook and shop with Brandie. Dad and Loren could eat and talk and...
I'm just afraid that when they see the snow... they will decide not to come. We want them to come because they were all sooooo very much fun.
Now my mom wants to talk to you all. She has a mystery bird and wants to know if you have ever seen anything like it.
Hello, this is Frankie's mom. We have a very strange bird that we have seen twice this week. I can't find anything like it in any of my five bird books.
It is almost as big as a robin. BUT looks more like a cardinal. It has a bright red topknot and is red down to just below its eyes. The beak is the shape and color of a cardinal. From under its eyes down the nape it is WHITE with gray speckles that are about the size of a shirt cuff button. They seem to be randomly spaced. Then the rest of the body is the color of a FEMALE cardinal.
I am trying to get a picture, but it is very skittery. IF I do get a picture I will see if Frankie will post it for you to see. It is just lovely. Do any of you have an idea as to what it is???? Thanks, LP

Hi Frankie,

Boy -- am I up early this morning!!

Everyone seems to be getting *lots* of snow but us. The joke is that "snow is afraid to fall in Detroit!"

I like your inside joke about Brandie! (dating myself!)

Sounds like a female Cardinal to me....

Stay warm, and don't get lost in the snow!

Shocking!!!!!!

We live only two hours away from you!!!! Mom said her father's family settled near you, in Guernsey County, over 200 years ago!

We can only tell if birds are big or small around here. Not very observant. But a photo would be most interesting.

Frankie, stay warm! That's what we're trying to do!

It does sound like a female cardinal to us, too.

We are supposed to get 2 to 4 inches of the snow flakey things today and tonight, with another 6 to 10 inches of the things tomorrow. When does this end?

The mystery bird might be a yellow-shafted flicker?? We do get those here. Does is hang off the sides of trees like a woodpecker??? Mom apparently thinks she is some kind of bird aficionado or something...

Oh, dear Frankie, missing your furiends! I didn't realize you were such a sensitive soul. I hope your friends can visit soon. I would probably not mention the 87 years though, in case they find it a bit much. Don't forget to keep us updated. The yummies you were drooling over (our last post) was whipped cream, slurp.
Dear Frankie's mom. I apologize, but I don't know much about birds. All I do know is that I've never caught one. I have a favor to ask: your Frankie was drooling over some whipped cream, could you pls see to it that he gets a taste?
