Check this OUT....        the FRIGID COLD on Monday and Tues. was REALLY hard on the Wildlife...        Mom went out to fill the bird feeders and she saw what she THOUGHT was a Dead Cardinal...   Sometimes they crash into our Sunporch windows and die...  HOWEVER, this one was not under any of the windows... he was in the corner of our fence and the foundation of the house...   STRANGE !   BUT WAIT...   he was NOT dead...  mom reached down to pick him up... and he HOPPED onto her gloved up hand...

As you can also see... MOM was totally RUGGED UP... with TWO jackets a Hat and BOTH HOODS up...
Do you see how PLUMP the cardinal (RED BIRD) looks????   He had his feathers all PLUMPED UP... that is how birds keep WARM... by trapping their body heat between their featheres...     So anyway... he would NOT fly away...   so mom held him and cupped her other hand over him... until he got warm enough to feel like flying...
 Poor guy .
What a WILD and WICKED Winter we are having... Frost Quakes... Record Cold  Polar Vortex  WAY too MUCH SNOW... and the VERY RARE   Snow Rollers that SARGE showed you on Wednesday.  butt Fortunately it HAS warmed up a bit today.    All the snow you see HERE is going going going..  and we wish it was GONE...      MAYBE Tomorrow the Groundhog will have some GOOD NEWS fur US.
ABOUT TIME... After ALL it is the FURST day of FEBRUARY.    ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

We always wonder how tiny birds survive the cold..we have hardly even so much as a sparrow around here this winter

We are praying most of the wildlife survive and our paws are tightly crossed you get a break in the weather. We are having a rare sunny day with no rain but I am grounded as I have a sports injury and I am limping. Have a super Saturday.
Best wishes Molly

Hey FnE!
Wow, that cardinal is so very pretty! How cool to have him visit Mamaw like that. I'm sure he appreciated some loving company and her warm glove to give him some comfort. I'm glad Papaw Pantslegs got some pix so we can all see. It is definitely warmer now and my snow rollers are disappearing.

I feel sorry for the poor birds and all who have no home. But maybe your mom warms the feed of the cardinal a little with her gloves?

Aww, bless your mum for holding him for a while to get his circulation going. It must be brutal for them in such cold weather.

So pleased that the beautiful birdie survived. We don't have cardinals in Scotland, at least not the avian variety.

That is very cool the cardinal sat on your mom's hand so long like that! And even cooler that your mom helped warm him/her up.

Here's to hoping the groundhog has some good news tomorrow!

that is a real cool picture of your momma and that birdie....our mom read somewhere that a cardinal is a sign of someone you have lost in your life. we are looking for cardinals at our house, hoping grandma teri will visit us.

Maybe the cardinal thought your mom was a tree or something. Hard to recognize anything human when the crazy ladies put all their clothing on at once.

Not as cold now, right? Yeah, more snow here, but that's OK as long as it isn't so cold momma makes me wear my horrible sweater.

Kisses,
Dexter

P.S. Our birdies get really puffy too, but even so, some of them will dive into the bird bath as soon as momma breaks up the ice.

OMD! That is so cool! Cardinals are my grandmas favorite bird...she loves them! What a special thing for your mom to have happen to her. I'm sure you guys are getting more snow today cuz it has been snowing here since before we woke up this morning!
