Ohio's Ice Box.....

Below (in BLACK) you can read about how cold it once got in our neck of the woods...    This place that we all call MILLIGAN's BEND...    is 7 Miles from our house...
The temp went down to 39° BELOW ZERO... F.     that was NOT the Wind Chill... it was the ACTUAL TEMPERATURE.
This Sign marking Ohio's Icebox...   is actually in the Yard of one of our relatives.   AND it is the SAME sign that was RIPPED OFF during the TORNADO that came through 2 1/2 Years ago.    The sign was FOUND   500 Yards away...   it weighs over 200 pounds.   They top Right corner of the map of Ohio was broken off..    THAT was not repaired since it is now a reminder of not only the Coldest Temp. ever recorded in Ohio.. but of the tornado that tried to snatch it away.
We have posted about this in other winters... when we THOUGHT it was BAD... butt we are thinkin that THIS winter is WORSE than any our mom and dad can recall since 1976-77.   Note the Dates... Feb. 8 to 15...   and we are thinkin that this current cold spell will last until at least Valentine's Day... THIS year.

"Milligan - Ohio's Icebox"          found on Wikipedia
On February 10, 1899, a United States Weather Bureau Station, operated by Steve Eveland, in the small hamlet of Milligan, Ohio, now part of McLuney, reported a temperature of 39 degrees below zero. To date, this is the lowest temperature officially recorded in Ohio. Milligan's location in the flat valley of the Moxahala Creek made it susceptible to cold air masses drained from surrounding elevations. The record-breaking temperature in Milligan was recorded in the midst of a severe cold spell throughout Ohio that began on February 8 and ended on February 15, 1899 when temperatures reached a few degrees above zero. While Milligan can no longer be found on a map, it has been known as the coldest spot in Ohio for over one hundred years.

SO I guess it COULD get WORSE than what we are having NOW... butt we don't want it to happen.        Because of the Bitter Cold All NON-Essential County services have been suspended for Today...     the only time MOM ever has heard of THAT was on January 26, 1978 when Ohio had a BLIZZARD...
STAY WARM and SAFE....     and think SPRING and ROBINS and Hot SOUP.

OMD....Mommy said it's been so long since she was in temps like that. Now she has Florida blood pumping through her veins and just wouldn't survive anymore. If it goes below 50 degrees, she hibernates under an electric blanket. SHEEESH!

This morning it is a bright sunny -4 below outside, and the wind has been a blowing and blowing. Our mom is so tired of the cold and not being able to take us for our walks along the river, and lakes. It stinks. Wesa heard on the tv this morning this is the coldest in 121 years in iowa.
We are thinking of moving to sunny Aruba.

Now that's what we call cold.

After all that happened last Friday in Houston with the icy conditions and a repeat expected today the hospital decided that non-essential departments would close today so Mommy is home. It's cold but we don't see no ice or rain yet. That's OK. Mommy says we'll just cuddle all day.

Stay warm if you can.
